Olympians head to Milton Keynes SNOzone

skiingAs part of the Slide2Sochi Roadshow, five times Olympian and qualified ski instructor Sir Steve Redgrave and former GB sprinter Iwan Thomas will be coming to the SNOzone at Xscape, Milton Keynes, helping to promote the winter-sports and those who will be taking part in Russia’s Winter Olympic Games held in Sochi.

Iwan Thomas will be trying skiing for the first time whilst Sir Steve Redgrave will be showing the ropes to those who have not had much experience skiing. BBC Ski Sunday presenter Graham Bell may also be challenged to ski against the clock. The event takes place this Saturday 5 October at Snozone in Milton Keynes.

This event will make a great day out for all the family – even those who have never tried skiing or snowboarding before. As well as the free TRY skiing and snowboarding sessions, which are suitable for complete beginners, and the chance to meet Steve Redgrave, Graham Bell and Iwan Thomas, you can sit in an Olympic Bobsleigh with members of the GB Bobsleigh team.

The more competitive can test their speed against Graham Bell and some of the UK’s up and coming top skiers who train at Snozone on a weekly basis; Jess Anderson and Megan Riley will be setting the times on the day. And, to keep everyone in the mountain mood, there will be an après-ski area featuring the High Society Band playing Tirolean music.

The event starts at 11am on Saturday 5 October. Admission is on a first come, first served basis and taster sessions can be pre-booked by calling 0871 222 5673. The Snozone Slide2Sochi event is being run by governing body Snowsport England in conjunction with Crystal Ski Holidays and the Tirol Tourist Board.

Don’t forget to wish the British wintersports athletes’ good luck for the Olympic Games by signing the giant Slide2Sochi snowball.
