As part of the Thinking Energy project, an initiative by Milton Keynes Council and supported by EON, to help us understand how new trends in lifestyle and technology impact the electric grid, 8 Milton Keynes residents received a subsidised Nissan Leaf electric car and home charging point. The vehicles cost £16,000 each, can reach a top speed of 90 mph and can travel up to 124 miles on a single overnight charge.
A previous Thinking Energy trial provided an Energy Management System (EMS) to 50 Milton Keynes households free of charge, some of which were then equipped with innovative energy packages/products at a subsidised cost. The EMS monitored and controlled the energy consumption of the household.
This experiment allows energy companies such as EON to better understand the energy usage of different families and allow them to accommodate future energy needs.
